Finished the first paper

from The Dada Seminars and have now started the second one, ‘Bad Dada (Evola)’ which is looking at Italian Dada, something I hadn’t know had actually existed in any significant way.

Yet more Dada

Yes, I know this is getting repetitive but at least I’m actually working on it! Most of the way through the first paper in The Dada Seminars and finding it very interesting indeed.

More Dada

The new book, The Dada Seminars is excellent. Really enjoying it and gleaning some excellent quotes and ideas for my article. Starting to feel like writing it may actually happen, that I’m on the right track to something that could really be useful.

An artist date!

Finally, for the first time in ages and ages and ages I took myself out on an artist date. I was feeling really brain-shrivelled (all that thinking at work – I’m not used to it!) and decided to just get out and revive myself, so I walked from work (Clerkenwell/Islington) to Virgin and then HMV on Oxford Street and listened to some music – in Virgin I checked out a few pop CDs I hadn’t tried before. Might buy Mika’s album some day – it sounds quite interesting. Then in HMV I just drifted round the classical section, listening to the Mitsuko Uchida Beethoven album they were playing. Didn’t actually buy anything, just listened, but it was very refreshing.

Started new Dada book: The Dada Seminars

Looking interesting so far, although I’m only just at the end of the introduction. Sounds like quite a different approach than the other books I’ve read. I’m really looking forward to reading more of it.

Baked muffins

Blueberry this time, using up the leftover blueberries from Saturday-morning’s pancakes. They seem to have come out OK, and four out of the six have survived until now to be put into the freezer for this week’s afternoon teas.

Started a cover design for the essentially-complete psalm

Layout will come next week, I think

Fixed up the dynamics for my psalm

So now all it needs, I think, is to be laid out and a cover designed for it. Maybe I’ll look into doing the cover tonight. I think something very simple – maybe just text even. Layout I might leave for next weekend, after which I will have to send it off to the Temple Music Composition Prize and see if anyone likes it.

Did a little collage

in my notes from the Tristan Tzara Manifesti & Lampisteries. Still need to do a little more, but at least it’s a start.

Read the final chapter of Walking in this World

So it’s all done now. But I think I still need something to keep me going, so I might quiz Tchatchke on what books by other authors she would recommend. Overall, WITW has been good, and pretty much just what I was looking for, although not nearly so well written as The Artist’s Way. Sometime I might try The Vein of Gold, but not yet. I think I would benefit from somebody else’s perspective next. I’d go back to Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, only there’s no time to do the exercises at present. Maybe in October…
