Photographed Stonehenge

Went out to Stonehenge with the World’s Best Boss and his brother. I decided to take my film SLR camera as it was such a gorgeous day, and see how well I could make the shots turn out. I think there might be some nice stuff in there. Sometime soon I will have to take my collection of film rolls off to be developed so I can find out…

Finished the Tristan Tzara Lampisteries

Not sure what the next Dada-related book will be – perhaps the Nancy Perloff Art and the Everyday, perhaps the Dada conference papers I bought from Amazon. There was some interesting stuff in both the Tzara manifesti and Lampisteries though. Definitely worthwhile, even if hard work.

Read a thought-provoking article on NewMusicBox

"It’s not bad music, I just hate it", by Frank J Oteri. An interesting concept followed by interesting discussion. Ran out of lunchtime when only half-way through the discussion, but I’ll be back to finish it off later, I hope…

More dada research

Only 10 pages to go of the Tristan Tzara Lampisteries now. It’s a thin book, but it took me a year to get through the first 6 pages or so, so it feels really good to be nearing the end and the prospect of something fresh.

Shot a roll and a half of film

I’m really enjoying using my film SLR camera. Must use it more often.

Saw a short opera

L’Infedelta delusa by Haydn – a private performance (!) for djelibeybi’s uncle & aunt’s 60th wedding anniversary in a tiny theatre at a National Trust property near Swindon. Very very fine. Most enjoyable

My first Prom!

Wonderful – John Adams conducting Copland’s Billy the Kid suite, and his own Century Rolls and (world premiere) Doctor Atomic symphony. Really fabulous. It’s been ages since I’ve been to a concert. Must do this more often. You can hear the BBC’s recording of this concert at http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2007/promsbroadcast/radio/ for the next week.

More Dada research

On the train and at lunchtime. I’ve now finished Tristan Tzara’s Dada manifesti, and am on to his Lampisteries. Not so much note-taking, but still interesting.

Squeezed in about an hour and a half’s research

For the paper on Satie and Dada I’ve been going to write for an age. It felt good to make profitable use of train- and lunch-time.
