Redesigned my recipes site

Been needing to build up a bit of a portfolio, so I thought I’d start by sprucing up my personal recipes site and applying some of the stuff I’ve been learning at work. Really enjoying it, and looking forward to implementing the ideas I found in an ALA article about using PHP and JavaScript to create on-the-fly graphic headers while maintaining accessibility.

Made cupcakes

Chocolate ripple ones this time. Cake helps. In every way except round the middle.

Started a new creativity book

I finished reading Julia Cameron’s Walking in this World a couple of weeks back, but was feeling the need for the sort of continued encouragement I’ve been getting from her books, so I asked a friend for a recommendation and on her advice ordered a copy of SARK’s Make Your Creative Dreams Real. I’ve only read the introduction, but her approach, while visually a bit girly, seems to be quite sensible and positive. And I like her attitude: "I give permission for creative dreamers to do more resting, lying down and napping, all of which benefits creative dreams". Any book which advocates naps has to be OK, doesn’t it?

Had a massage

I’ve been feeling a bit tense lately, with all the long work hours and not getting much composition done and felt the need to be unknotted, so I booked myself into our local massage/holistic therapies/beauty shop with my Polish masseuse, Magdalena, for a 1-hour Indian Head Massage. This is the most wonderful thing – concentrates just on the upper back, shoulders, neck, then a little head and face – really relaxes everything. There were so many knots that I’ve booked myself in for another one next week. So hopefully this will loosen me up a bit and make it easier to focus on what needs to be done. Either that or I’ll just sleep better. Either is good :-)
