Ordered new stuff from Amazon

I seem to be on a bit of a spending spree which I have worked out is largely because I miss my stuff in Australia. Anyway, I cut back on the things I wanted to buy (huuuge list) to order Nigella Express, Nigella Lawson’s latest book which is all about fast food, Step-by-step art school: Watercolour which I’ve had borrowed from Pitshanger Library since before Christmas and is excellent, so for £6-odd I figured I might as well own it rather than accumulating that much in library fines when I forget to renew, and Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms which I’ve never thought much about until it somehow became lodged in my brain a few weeks ago and now I must have it. Hmm. Odd.

Messed about with watercolour

On the new page for this week’s listening in my composition journal. Might do some collage on top of it.

Drew and watercoloured a tree in my composition journal

Based on this photograph, taken in Rome. I was quite pleased how the watercolour version turned out, especially as I’d been a little concerned about how watercolour would act in my composition journal, which is a Moleskine reporter notebook with quite thin paper.

Psalm I layout so very nearly complete

Did another pass over this today and it’s very very nearly there. Thinking of ditching the textured background on the cover, need to shrink the text size for the composer’s note and so on inside and add a publication number to the back cover, but apart from that, I think it’s done.

Read through first lot of posts from the Everyday Matters group

I’ve been meaning to join this Yahoo! group for a while because I like the philosophy and wanted to get the weekly challenges which seem to be updated only irregularly on flickr – now that I’m on I discover it’s a whole huge supportive community. Might need to switch to digest mode to save being drowned in floods of friendly artistic emails!

Worked out how to get MIDI from the keyboard into my computer

… so I can now doodle away and have everything recorded by Finale which should make it much easier to interpret later rather than trying to hold an eight-note chord and write it down, all at the same time.

Mostly completed layout of Psalm I

Really only need to check over and finalise and then print and bind and the whole thing will be done.

Pulled together cover for Psalm I

Preparing to send it off to the Bendigo Chamber Choir for their consideration. It feels good to be working towards something again.
