Made pancakes

It’s my birthday tomorrow (wheee!) but I’m still on this cruel, cruel detox diet, so this morning I broke out a little and used a little salt and a little extra maple syrup and made Jamie Oliver’s American-style pancakes for breakfast, albeit using gluten-free flour and oatmilk and no butter (*sob*). The result? Not too bad. Not as good as normal, true, and vastly lacking in a good strong cup of coffee, but not bad. Made the birthday experience feel a little more special anyway.

Started learning Ajax

Bought two O’Reilly books on Ajax: Adding Ajax and Ajax Hacks which I am hoping will help me work this stuff out before I need to implement it in the project I’m currently working on!

Completed my online portfolio

Well, phase 1 anyway. The next phase is to work on putting actual code in there, not just screensnaps.

Helped djelibeybi make hot cross buns

First attempt ever at making hot cross buns. It’s nice to be baking again, even if I can’t eat them (not that I would anyway because I hate sultanas – the only right sort of hot cross buns are fruitless and possibly with chocolate chips)

Went to The Spice Shop in Notting Hill

The main intention was to buy black sesame seeds (which I did) but also to have a nose around. It looks a brilliant shop – my only quibble is that the assorted spice mixes don’t say what’s in them, which means I have to quiz the assistant for everything that looks intriguing to check it doesn’t have either cumin or coriander in it. Also found Books for Cooks which I was terribly strong and didn’t enter.

Played about with colourlovers.com

Agents have been telling me for a while that I should have an online portfolio so clients can see the sort of web work I’m capable of, but up till now I haven’t really had any examples of what I’ve done still online, so I started designing one, and in working out the colour palette to use, I thought I should start tinkering with colourlovers.com. And what a cool site! The only thing it seems to lack is the ability to shift a shade to its nearest web-safe tone, but apart from that it’s a brilliant way to look at colours up close to each other and set up a palette for a site or another sort of design or whatever and save it for future reference… and download the palette for import straight into Photoshop or Illustrator or whatever’s swatches feature. Brilliant. I can see this being a very useful tool for years to come. It doesn’t like Safari though…
