Got the forum working on my new wiki
Now I just need my friends to join up from the invitations I sent them… waiting, waiting, waiting *sigh*

… to see “The Crack”, Shibboleth by Doris Salcedo, which was remarkably beautiful and exciting for being basically a crack in a cement floor. I loved the journey of travelling along its length, exploring the offshoot cracks and seeing it expand and contract. I loved that there were so many people there obviously enjoying it. I loved that for a piece about such serious topics as alienation and separation, it was so accessible to the public and that people were walking along it, straddling it, putting their feet in it and taking photographs of toys and each other interacting with it (I saw a little girl photographing her teddy bear, suspended by his arms over one of the larger parts and a young couple who had brought a Lego cowboy along to photograph at the edge of the abyss). Shame they’re filling it in on Monday, but I do like that you’ll always be able to see it – it’ll always be there, it can’t ever fully be taken away. Very, very cool. I took a ton of photos too, but as they’re all on film, it’s going to take a while for them to get to the shop and be processed.

My first wiki! I’ve been meaning to do this for a while – my ex-boss came up with a grand idea that we’ve been talking about implementing for about 3-4 years now, but we’ve never got around to it, so I thought it might be good if I and some of my geek-friends started at least compiling some content for it, so that when we get around to doing something proper with it, at least it won’t be empty! It’s been quite a learning curve, setting up the wiki, but the wiki farm I’ve chosen (wikidot.org) has a fabulous range of options, including a full forum and post comments, is fully skinnable AND FREE! Gosh how I love opensource. Such a good package this one – if you’re looking for a full-featured wiki without ads and don’t mind not having a WYSIWYG interface, definitely check it out. And as a bonus, it produces beautiful, valid markup behind the scenes.

I’ve been reading the O’Reilly Adding Ajax book, which has been really clear and easy to follow, but finally I found the time to actually get my hands dirty with some code and yay! XMLHttpRequest working for me!
