Finally managed to get back to working on the Satie piece

It’s been languishing since November, but at last I’ve managed to go through the notes exported from ProTools and transfer them across to Finale. They still need work – voice-leading is horrible, for example – but at least it’s progress, and even better, it was something I *wanted* to do (to the extent that I got up at 8 in the morning on a Sunday while djeli was still sleeping), not something I forced myself to do, which is the best sign of all.

Tried a new recipe

The sticky chicken thighs from Jamie Oliver’s Jamie at Home book. Really quite stunningly delicious. Huzzah for leftovers!

Worked a bit more on my knitting

I’ve been slowly working my way through the Bainbridge scarf. I think I’m about halfway now. It’s a little tricky to work on on the train because I think I need slighly longer double-pointed needles so I always need to be watching it to make sure the stitches don’t slip off.

Borrowed scores & CDs from the library

The Imperial College library blessed me with both scores AND CDs for Britten’s Peter Grimes and Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino, plus a book which looks useful for the Satie/Dada article

Worked on Satie & Dada research

Aiming to get to the end of the Evola article this week so I can focus on books that are in the Imperial College library while I have access to them.

Explored the library at Imperial College

… while on a saunter around the environs. Thought I might as well ask if I was allowed to borrow & see if they had any good CSS books. I never found out because was waylaid by the most awesome collection of modern classical CDs and scores and music books ever accidentally discovered in a science and technology university library. WOW!

Bought CDs

Very bad place in my head, so I consoled myself with CDs from HMV – the Warlock Capriol/The Curlew/etc. sung by John Mark Ainsley with the Nash Ensemble on Hyperion (and on sale) and a Naxos CD of piano music by John Tavener. Should keep the spirits up!

Went on a tour of Kew Palace

An after-hour tours, with laid-on wine and strawberries and various other nibblies forbidden to me. Very interesting tour, although I do think £25 was a bit steep for members, but it was enjoyable and interesting and we got to see parts of the house not normally open to the public, which was cool. I took a heap of photos, mostly of musical instruments. And now we’re members of Kew Gardens too!
