Had a slobby day

Did the grocery shopping – across 3 different supermarkets, Djeli failed to buy me a birthday present, then we came home and watched A Life Less Ordinary, which was just as quirky and fun as I’d remembered it being.

Finally watched Jacques Tati’s “PlayTime”

I can see why it wasn’t a commercial success, and while more ambitious, I don’t think it’s as effective as Mon Oncle, which is one of my favourite films of all time. But there are some particularly lovely bits in it, and while the beginning is slow, it’s worth persevering.

Went to see the accountant

First step on the road to clearing the financial backlog and getting our visas renewed.

Finally went to see the doctor

About getting some imaging done on my neck/head to see what damage the concussion last year did. This is a big leap forward, in spite of sounding so dull. I’ve been umming and ahhing about whether to do it or not, but the pain I’ve been in this week has pushed me on to do something about it. It’s one of those deals where he sends off the paperwork, then a bit later somebody in the NHS sends me an appointment, so goodness only knows when it will actually be, but at least it’s a start.

Messed around with illustrator

I felt the time had come to finally work up my “Guardian of the dumb idea” doodle into something a little more official. Woollyjitters says he looks like a trout playing golf. I don’t know that he’d take very kindly to that. At any rate, I’m fond of him.

Ordered a new book

Designing for the social web by Joshua Porter. Looks interesting, is being reviewed for the next London Web Standards Group meeting (which might actually get me along to one of these things) and looks like it could have relevance for a project djeli and I are hatching too. Seemed like good reasons to invest!

Messed about with collage and drawing

The horrors of this week all got too much for me, so after spending the morning finishing reading Murder on the Leviathan I decided to give myself the day off and spent the whole afternoon on the couch, listening to music and messing about in my journal – I completed 6 entire spreads! Plus added a bit to a few more. I don’t think I’ve ever done that much in a session ever before. Definitely feel better for a little random creative thought, although the headache is as bad as ever.

First-ever karaoke experience!

I sang ELO’s Mr Blue Sky and later on MIKA’s Grace Kelly. Others tell me I acquitted myself quite creditably. All I know is that I had an immense amount of fun. Jac’s version of Every Sperm is Sacred was particularly inspiring.

Worked out how to write multiline emails on my phone

You wouldn’t believe the palaver! But sooo glad I’ve been able to do it (for other struggling W810i owners out there, you need to switch off the T9 dictionary, then press # twice. If you have dictionary on when you do this, you’ll just get 2 spaces. Aaargh! Why couldn’t somebody document this??) because now it means I can send multiple tasks to Remember the Milk in one email, which surely will be cheaper on the data costs.
