Finished a book

It’s been a while since I’ve just randomly read a book but since loading an e-book reader on the iPod Touch it’s so easy to have books with me that I’ve got quite a lot of reading done. So I’ve just finished Frank L. Baum’s The Emerald City of Oz. I always loved the Oz books as a child and while the writing’s a little on the simplistic side, they’re hard to beat for sheer innocent imaginative storytelling. And now I’ve started on John Buchan’s The 39 Steps which I’ve seen many, many times but never read.

Reading and reviewing

Over the past week I’ve managed to clear about 20 items off my read/review list. It’s a long list and there’s still 127 things in there (and that’s not counting whatever’s lurking in my RSS reader or the hard-copy file!) but it’s great to feel it decreasing a bit.

Flute piece again

Did a little more work on my flute piece at lunchtime. I’ve decided to break up the second section and use it more as punctuation marks because it’s sounding a little amateur and just plain not working. I think I really need to take the whole thing into Finale as the next step, so I can hear it as a whole and get a better idea of where to take it next.

Update from bedtime – I think I may have basically finished it! It seems to have turned itself into a study rather than a proper piece and it’s much more comfortable like that.

Made lasagne

It’s been a while since I’ve made one but it turned out well, which has the added benefit of meaning that I have a couple of yummy lunches this week for work – yay!

Made myself useful

Helped Djeli out with his trying to fathom the mysteries of web dev (as opposed to proper programme dev). I think he’s making progress so hopefully I’ve been a bit useful.

Wrote a bit more of my flute piece and started work on some aural practice, both on the train, courtesy of my new toy.

First foray into paid apps

IBank for keeping track of my expenses, Pianist so I can use my new toy to help me compose when I’m away from a proper piano. I’ve also downloaded a bunch of free apps too – Karajan ear-training, Remember The Milk, Evernote, TweetDeck and Stanza for starters. I found that Project Gutenberg has the Oz books too so am now Reading The Emerald City of Oz on my iPod! Oh the joy of technology!
