Went to the theatre

Finally got to see The 39 Steps, based on the Hitchcock film which was sort-of based on the book by John Buchan. Excellent show – very clever and absolutely hilarious. Who knows, maybe London will convert me to the theatre after all!

Reviewed my sketches from work

I plucked up the courage to revisit the quick sketches I’d done at lunchtimes using the piano keyboard on my iPod Touch – and they’re nowhere near as bad as I’d expected them to be. The second one is downright useful. It’s sort of Howard-Skemptonish and I’ve just sketched in a basic single-note left-hand part to it. I think it might work well as a song accompaniment, so now I need to find some words. Maybe a haiku would work well. It’s got a sort of moto-perpetuoisity to it, with a couple of pauses, so it feels quite haiku-like. Pleased with it anyway – yay iPod!

Got back to my morning pages

It’s been a couple of weeks, almost, since I last did my pages regularly, and I’ve missed them. They really help me to think straight and work out what I need to do, so I think this is a step in the right direction again.

Went on a tour of the Tate Modern’s oil tanks

Yup. Oil tanks. They’re going to be part of the new development there and this was the last chance to see them before building starts. One of them’s going to be an auditorium – will be interesting to see how that turns out – interesting acoustics! We weren’t allowed to take any photos but I took some hopefully nice shots of St Paul’s etc from the balcony of the members’ loung afterwards. Also went to see the Pop Life exhibition which was pretty interesting.

O happy lunch break

Sitting in the sun with my knitting, Wagamama chicken gyoza and listening to Philip Glass’s music for The Hours. Heaven

Avenue Q!

Haven’t been to a show in ages but djeli’s wanted to see Avenue Q for ages so I finally booked for us to go (three months late – whoops) and even though I didn’t really expect to like it, it was fan-frickin’-tastic! The most original and funniest thing I’ve seen in as long as I can remember. Topped off with a delicious dinner (chicken liver pate and then an excellent fish and chips) and ice cream (tiramisu flavoured) to follow. Djeli seemed to enjoy himself too :-D

Went for a walk

at lunchtime. I went the other way along Brick Lane, back towards Spitalfields Market, then turned off and looked at the church close up. They do a lunchtime service on a Tuesday. Maybe I’ll go along someday.

Still more knitting

I’m afraid it may go on like this for a while but I’ve made a good start on the first glove – I’m a third of the way up the palm already and I think they’re going to be gorgeous.

More knitting

Cuff is half done. Too exhausted to contemplate anything more creative.
