Drew a tree

Spring has been springing upon us early, so I went for a lovely long walk in the park today, where I came upon numerous trees surrounded by carpets of purple and white flowers (some sort of bulb. I can’t be more specific than that). Not a great drawing, but it was nice to just take the time to do it.

Drew a box

Yeah, well, it was neither exciting nor particularly well executed (so won’t be posting it) but I was bored while waiting for djelibeybi to finish his phone call in Staples and the label intrigued me, saying as it did "BOX CERTIFICATE THIS DOUBLE WALL" which I took to be mangled English until I realised that in spite of the gap beneath these words, they actually joined on to the next bit of text which read "box meets all construction requirements of applicable freight classification". Anyway, I drew something at any rate.

Drew Stonehenge!

In the end, after messing about with watercolour over the failed stencil, I decided to have a bash at drawing Stonehenge over the top of it all. I confess that I did use the underlying stencil to guide me with heights and things in the places where it had worked best, but there’s a lot more detail in the drawing, and a few of the stones on the right had essentially been completely wiped out due to the paper coming apart when I removed the stencil. I think it’s a measure of how my confidence in my drawing has grown that I didn’t even think of drawing in pencil – I went straight in there with the pen. Woohoo!

Drew my breakfast

At Danny Gregory’s behest (in The Creative License). Porridge with dried cranberries and cinnamon with oat milk (no sugar, barely any salt).

Added colour to the mug drawing I did yesterday

The thing I particularly love about my mug’s artwork is the colour variations displayed at the point where the various geometric patterns intersect, so I had to have a go at colouring the drawing I did. I was hoping to use watercolour, but I’d already pasted in an article about the Matisse Museum in France having received a donated Matisse-decorated dining room and was concerned about the effect of any excess dampness on the newsprint, so I used coloured pencil again. Will post a scan shortly.

Drew my mug

EDM challenge number 4. My mug is one I bought at the Tate Modern after the Bauhaus exhibition they had there and has one of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy’s designs on it (A 19 from 1927). I’m very fond.

Created a border design

Based on a mosaic border we saw in Rome, with a few more modern tweaks. You can see the edge of it in the photo of the shallots drawing in the previous post. Drawn with Faber-Castell sepia Pitt artist pen, and coloured with Derwent Coloursoft pencils. It’s now bordering this week’s listening list :-)

Drew shallots

Or possibly spring onions, depending on where you live. They were left over from the corn chowder and just flopped on the bench, so I figured I might as well practice my pen-drawing. Then played with the coloured pencils trying to capture the right greens for the leaves. Fun!

Drew a squiggle character

Kind of a homage to my Da, who draws the most marvellous squiggle people. I think mine is some sort of bird. Anyway, I liked the way he turned out. Will post him soon.

Drew a couple of patterns

Feeling a little down, so I distracted myself by making a couple of patterns. One I like and I made myself colour it with reds and oranges and purples, so it makes me feel good to look at it. The other one wasn’t so successful. I wanted it to be greens, but the damn blues kept creeping in and it ended up a little gloomy.
