Explored Shrewsbury

Djelibeybi and I spent an enjoyable afternoon wandering the streets of Shrewsbury before going off to the movies to see How to Lose Friends and Alienate People (verdict: light-hearted, fun, but the first half was all about agonising uncomfortableness to the point I almost couldn’t stand it, but the second half was good. Not likely to win awards, but fun).

Explored the library at Imperial College

… while on a saunter around the environs. Thought I might as well ask if I was allowed to borrow & see if they had any good CSS books. I never found out because was waylaid by the most awesome collection of modern classical CDs and scores and music books ever accidentally discovered in a science and technology university library. WOW!

Went on a tour of Kew Palace

An after-hour tours, with laid-on wine and strawberries and various other nibblies forbidden to me. Very interesting tour, although I do think £25 was a bit steep for members, but it was enjoyable and interesting and we got to see parts of the house not normally open to the public, which was cool. I took a heap of photos, mostly of musical instruments. And now we’re members of Kew Gardens too!

Started a new job

Seems good to start with – nice people, work seems interesting. I went and sat by the Albert Memorial in the sun to eat my lunch while watching the Royal Albert Hall lurk. Lovely.

Visited museums

Specifically, the Jackfield tile museum and the Coalbrookedale Museum of Iron – both excellent and some lovely designs on display.

Explored Shropshire

In particular, Much Wenlock (which has an awesome yarn shop and a very nice bakery and an excellent ruined priory where we bought an English Heritage picnic rug at last) and Bridgnorth (which has a great corridor-style secondhand bookshop). Saw some gorgeous tiles at the Much Wenlock priory and a ruined abbey en route – curious because they were all totally random tiles – apparently they were original, so I guess the monks picked up a few batches of seconds from the local tile factories!
