Another birthday treat – there wasn’t going to be anyone to do anything with, so I figured I’d treat myself to a proper video night. I went out to get a takeaway pizza from our local shop, which has just been taken over by new people – and they gave me a free coffee, a little biscuit and a mini KitKat while I waited! AND it was a great pizza when it came. And the bear had given me Quantum of Solace on DVD, so everything was set

Did the grocery shopping – across 3 different supermarkets, Djeli failed to buy me a birthday present, then we came home and watched A Life Less Ordinary, which was just as quirky and fun as I’d remembered it being.

I can see why it wasn’t a commercial success, and while more ambitious, I don’t think it’s as effective as Mon Oncle, which is one of my favourite films of all time. But there are some particularly lovely bits in it, and while the beginning is slow, it’s worth persevering.

Djelibeybi and I spent an enjoyable afternoon wandering the streets of Shrewsbury before going off to the movies to see How to Lose Friends and Alienate People (verdict: light-hearted, fun, but the first half was all about agonising uncomfortableness to the point I almost couldn’t stand it, but the second half was good. Not likely to win awards, but fun).
