Wrote a list of everything I’m trying to do

It filled a whole A4 page. Without really trying. Which is rather scary, I think. Conclusion: I’m expecting too much of myself, and because I’m too tired to be rational, I’m blaming others for not apparently putting in as much effort as I’d like them too (even though they have their own stuff going on). I think this has been useful. Unfortunately there’s very little I can ditch off the list right now, but at least now I have a better handle on why I’m falling apart so I can hopefully be a bit kinder to myself and a bit more forgiving of others. Or at least that’s the plan. Oh look – a plan. That’s another thing for the list. *sigh*

Mmmm Buffy

Really enjoying revisiting Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Cleared up a couple more to-do items while watching a few episodes of Season 3.

Played my flute for a little…

and thought about my sheet-music shopping list: thinking Telemann solo Fantasias, Poulenc Sonata, Chaminade Concertino, the Roussel Jouers de flute – and maybe a little Bach? That ought to keep me occupied for a while :-)

Oh and I cleared a hole in my to-do list too – no more overdues!!

Instigated a new system

I’ve decided to dedicate 1 hour per week night to getting things done, with one night a week being devoted exclusively to music stuff. Tonight was the first night. Tomorrow I think will be the music night.

Reading and reviewing

Over the past week I’ve managed to clear about 20 items off my read/review list. It’s a long list and there’s still 127 things in there (and that’s not counting whatever’s lurking in my RSS reader or the hard-copy file!) but it’s great to feel it decreasing a bit.

Accounting satisfaction

Bought and started setting up my new accounting package today – after much soul-searching and accountant-harrassing I finally settled on iBank. I think it’ll do the job admirably, and if it doesn’t they have a 30-day money-back guarantee when it’s bought from their website. So now I’ve started importing transactions. Just going back to July 2008 for the Australian accounts (start of FY2009) and April 2008 for the UK accounts (ditto). The import’s been really quite easy – nice and streamlined, although I do need to go over transactions and search out those that needed split categories as the splits can’t be notated during import. But so far, so funky. And now it’s nearly 3am so definitely time to call it a day.

Finished a whole bunch of little tasks

Cleaning up tags in Evernote, cleaning completed tasks out of my to-do list, setting up Max on the newly reinstalled Snow Leopard machine, sending a bunch of emails, extracting a list of accounts in use from MYOB so I have something to base my new accounts list on, pulling together figures for how much I spent on internet access for the server in Australia in the first 3 1/2 years we were over here – along with how much djeli owes me for his part (which basically wipes out what I owe him over there, so it looks like I get to keep my tax refund – YAY!). Quietly satisfying

Finished the Satie arrangement

At long, long last. I think the guy who commissioned it asked for it in 2006, when I was having a lot of trouble pulling myself together. He has been incredibly patient and endlessly encouraging, so it’s great to finally be able to present him with the score. Plus it’s a HUGE weight off my mind, and now it’s done I feel ready to face just about anything. I also feel I deserve a new iPod Touch :-)

Finally completed 5 years of overdue tax

Now if that doesn’t free up the creative impulses, I don’t know what will! Sent off the signed documents authorising the go-ahead for my Australian income tax returns for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, then went on to complete the data input and report generation for 2009, which I then sent to my accountant. Mmmm… warm, fuzzy feeling!
