7 days!!!!

Actually managed 7 days in a row on my Creative Pact, so I’m feeling unreasonably pleased with myself.

I also managed to sort out the domain-name-buying issue by using a different card (still don’t know what happened with the first attempt) and pointed to to my hosting space today. So this evening, I had my first stab at HTML5, putting together a placeholder page for the site so it looks a bit more proper as the work is being done rather than advertising the services of my hosting provider :-) It’s simple, and possibly I’ve done something semantically wobbly, but it does validate, and that makes me a happy camper.

First-ever HTML5 page

Expanding this blog!

I decided on the way home this evening, after contemplating and discarding a number of approaches (including a new, anonymous blog, which then raised the question of how do you promote an anonymous blog?) that I’m going to start creating the occasional longer post for this blog, addressing various topics to do with creativity, productivity and related topics. I’m hopefully going to post the first one on the weekend, but for now, I’ve written a letter to explain what on Earth I’m thinking

Sorted out a score

It’s been a long time since I’ve done this but it feels good to have it sorted. Next I’ll have to move on to the others. Ew. But I need to get back to it.

Fixed up the four things that were outstanding on this blog

  1. Category cloud needing to be limited to 10 categories (sorted thanks to this widget)
  2. Older posts/New posts nav at the bottom of each list page
  3. Set title to not be “Untitled Document”
  4. Made the date show up on multiple posts on the one day

Of course there are other things I want to go through and finesse, but this should be enough to show it to the world now at least. Yay! Only taken about 5 months!

All ready to check over the layout now. Hoping to have it finished by the end of the Easter weekend.

Sorted out the music part of Remembrances

So now I’m happy with the notes and the slurs and dynamics, I can finally move on to finalising the design. This has taken far too long, but it’ll be grand to know that it’s all done. Then back on to the Satie piece again, now I have my brush pen…

Designed a new score cover

Reworked the cover for Remembrances in sketch form – based on the old cover but a little more sophisticated, if I may say so myself. Now to put it into InDesign and make a real cover from it.

Still working on the Psalm I layout *sigh*

Having printing problems – if I save as TIFF or other bitmap then I get jaggies on my hairpins; if I save as EPS I get nice smooth hairpins, but slightly fuzzy staves (not to mention having to review every inch of text to check it retained its font and still looks the same once printed from Windows). Still trying to fix this one. I don’t quite understand it because previous Finale versions always managed to export a nice smooth hairpin to TIFF, so it’s either a Mac thing (unlikely) or a Fin 2006 thing (pathetic). Grr.

Psalm I layout so very nearly complete

Did another pass over this today and it’s very very nearly there. Thinking of ditching the textured background on the cover, need to shrink the text size for the composer’s note and so on inside and add a publication number to the back cover, but apart from that, I think it’s done.
